Cut out the failure
Loose material, rot, and failed patches come out until we reach sound substrate. Covering weakness is not repairing it. Cut-back edges get feathered wide; tight patches telegraph, generous ones vanish.
Rebuild in kind
Like repairs like: real stucco in stucco, wood or consolidant in wood, setting compound in drywall. Materials that move with the original. Materials match the original’s movement, or the crack simply relocates.
Blend and match
Texture and profile blended until the repair vanishes at raking light. This is the craft step most repairs skip. Blend checks happen at dawn-angle light, the hardest critic a wall has.
Prime and verify

Source first: we make sure the leak is fixed, then cut out damage, treat any staining, rebuild, and seal with stain-blocking primer so it never ghosts back.
Can you match knockdown texture from the 90s?
Almost certainly. We match era textures by mixing and tooling to your actual wall, testing beside the repair until the blend disappears.
Is skim coating worth it over replacing drywall?
Usually, yes. A skim coat delivers a new-wall finish at a fraction of demolition cost, provided the substrate is sound. We will tell you honestly when it is not.
